MIKE CURRIER

INSTRUCTOR – BLACK BELT

Mike began training gymnastics at age 10 and was a nationally ranked gymnast until 1999. After retiring from competitive gymnastics, Mike transitioned into coaching. He has coached for multiple gyms including the world famous Camp Woodward in Woodward, PA. While living in Pennsylvania, Mike also worked as an assistant gymnastics coach for Penn State University. He began training Jiu Jitsu in 2014 and started coaching movement classes shortly after. In December of 2015, Mike opened his first Jiu Jitsu academy in Sherwood, Oregon. The gym grew rapidly and soon moved to a larger location twice the size. In June 2018, Mike and his wife Samantha and son HW moved to Fountain Hills where they opened Impact Fountain Hills. Impact was the first Jiu Jitsu academy in Fountain Hills and remains the only tumbling/parkour gym in the area.

Mike continues his growth in Jiu Jitsu under fourth degree black belt Professor Michael Chapman. He is an active competitor on the professional grappling circuit. He believes that every individual should develop their own grappling style and hopes to use his extensive balance and movement training to help his students develop technical, fluid Jiu Jitsu. It is important to Mike to lead by example and continue to contribute to the growth of the sport.

Samantha CURRIER

INSTRUCTOR – BROWN BELT

Samantha began training Jiu Jitsu in 2014 and is now a purple belt under Professor Michael Chapman. Jiu Jitsu was Samantha’s first experience in combat sports and she quickly fell in love, training daily and competing in many local and national tournaments. She is a World Masters bronze medalist, Seattle Open double gold medalist, and medalist in many local tournaments. Samantha is vocal about the profound change Jiu Jitsu has made to her overall well-being and confidence and is passionate about bringing more women to the sport. Despite being a smaller female, her Jiu Jitsu style revolves around heavy top pressure and systematic positional progression.

When not training Jiu Jitsu, Samantha works as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and dogs, hiking, rock climbing, and true crime.
